Prop Book

I was hired to create book cover art for Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ernest Thompson’s new web series, “Cries Of Valor In Defiance.” The assignment was to make a 5.5 X 8.5” hardcover book jacket that had the look of something created 40 years ago. I gave it my best shot with my shaky hands and wiggly lines and this is what I came up with for my client. Because time was running short and there were mutual delays, I ended up producing this as a completed prop for the production, along with two extra book jackets. The book underneath is a library copy of “On Golden Pond” scored online from a used bookseller.

Front cover. Aged with soy sauce, nail file, abrasive rock, water, and crystal shards. A copy of the client’s book was sourced secondhand and did not need any artificial aging methods applied.

Spine. Takes cues from author’s original published work, such as publisher.

Back cover. Again, given a wash with soy sauce, aged with rock fragments and a nail file.
