MTL30
For the Microsystems Technology Laboratories’ 30th anniversary symposium, we produced a booklet with a very brief timeline of key events in MTL history, some words from our previous lab directors (many of whom went on to hold high-profile roles at the Institute, such as President and Provost, not to speak of the two Deans), and a timeline of key MTL events. Naturally, we also provided a schedule of symposium events along with photos/bios of the speakers. All of this was layered with research scientist/artist Felice Frankel’s spectacular photography on Stardream paper for extra flourish. This is one of my favorite projects from MTL because it allowed for so much freedom and creativity to produce such an amazingly beautiful book, very different from the annual reports and posters that I was typically preparing, and this was a tangible object unlike the websites I created. Although though there was some minor disagreement between myself and the lab director at the time (he wanted a black plastic comb binding, I wanted silver metal), this came out beautifully. The event logo eventually informed our lab’s new logo as well.
